Quality Is Our Choice.
In Germany there are thirteen wine growing regions and at Magma you will find the best winemakers of each region. Some of them even belong to the best winemakers in the world. We rely on the three main German wine critics Gault Millau, Gerhard Eichelmann and Wein-Plus.de. And you can rely on us. But remember: whatever the critics say, it is still your own taste if you like a wine or not. The following list is in order of the average ratings of these three critics. Sorry, most web pages are in German only. Whenever there is an English version we also link to this.

5 Stars - highest rating for world-class wine producers

• Weingut Keller / Rheinhessen (English PDF)
  Look at any high score for German wines and you will find one name on the top: Keller. "Winemaker of the Decade" by Gault Millau.
• Weingut Emrich-Schönleber / Nahe (English , Japanese)
  Out of the thousands of German winemakers, there are only three who receive 5 stars by all major critics: Keller, Dönnhof (not available at Magma) and Emrich-Schönleber. It's lonely on the top, but E-S has made it to here.
• Weingut Markus Molitor / Mosel (English)
  Molitor has large vineyards (40ha), big choice (about 60 different wines each year) and premium quality. More choice - more fun!
• Weingut Wittmann / Rheinhessen (English)
  Certified organic wines of the premium quality.
• Weingut Reinhold Haart / Mosel
  100% Riesling, mainly produced at noble sweet wines - must try. Haart is the "Winemaker of the Year 2007" (Gault Millau)

4 Stars - excellent producers counted as among the best in Germany

• Weingut Geheimer Rat Dr. von Bassermann-Jordan / Pfalz (English)
  The estate "Privy Council Dr. von Bassermann-Jordan" has 300 years history. They mainly produces high quality Riesling which are loved by international critics.
• Weingut Friedrich Becker / Pfalz
  Becker produced now six times in a row the single best red wine of it's vintage in Germany.
• Weingut Bercher / Baden (English)
  The favourite red wine maker of critic Eichelmann.
• Fürstliches Castellsches Domänenamt / Franken
  This "princely" estate has a history of 900 years. In 1659 they invented the Silvaner grape in Germany, which is now one of the most popular dry white varieties.
• Weingut Fritz Haag / Mosel (English)
  The senior of the quality winemakers and the first one who was awarded "Winemaker of the Year" in 1994 by Gault Millau. Specialized in sweet Rieslings.
• Weingut Juliusspital / Franken (English , Japanese PDF)
  Wines from the large charity foundation Juliusspital are catered at the Business and Raffles Class of Singapore Airlines. The international critics love them.
• Weingut Schloss Lieser / Mosel
  The son of Haag, his Rieslings are close on his fathers heels.
• Weingut Jean Stodden / Ahr
  Stodden's Spatburgunder are not easy to understand. But once you got the idea of this heavy and dark wines, they compete with any premium French Pinot Noir. Stodden was the first German red wine maker, which was invited by the Raffles Hotel Singapore to participate in the annual Wine, Food + Arts Experience in 2009.
• Weingut Florian Weingart / Mittelrhein
  A young Riesling specialist. Good for you: the quality of the wines has left the prices far behind.

1 to 3 Stars - (very) good producers have been making consistently high quality wines for many years

• Weingut Fritz Allendorf / Rheingau
  Allendorf takes wine serious and created a "Wine.Experience.World" and a "Eurasian Red Wine Garden" for visitors of his estate.
• Weingut Drautz-Able / Wuerttemberg
  Drautz-Able just celebrated their 500 anniversary but they are among the most innovative wineries in Germany. Their wooden barreled wines are most famous since they founded the German Barrique Forum "Hades".
• Weingut Destillerie Gerhard Gutzler / Rheinhessen
  Gutzler owns the original site of "Liebfrauenmilch". He has excellent barrique wines and produces also fruit brandies from his own orchard.
• Weingut Prinz von Hessen / Rheingau (English)
  The "Prince" is famous for the fruity Riesling and won 4 awards at "Wines for Asia" in Singapore.
• Weingut Johanninger / Rheinhessen/Rheingau/Nahe (English)
  A merger of three small wineries in three wine regions. Johanninger keeps brand marketing serious and have good quality Pinot wines.
• Weingut Landmann / Baden (English)
  Spicy Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris
• Weingut Ferdinand Koegler / Rheingau
  The winery is located in the 580 years old famous "Hof Bechtermuenz" at Eltville.Koegler offers fresh wines, like a very rare "Gruener Veltliner", excellent Rieslings,Spaetburgunder and Merlots.
• Weingut Lehnert-Veit / Mosel
  Lehnert-Veit ferments more than half of his production from the famous wineyards Piesporter Goldtroepfchen, Falkenberg and Treppchen as dry wines. He also offers an excellent Mosel Merlot.
• Weingut Lützkendorf / Saale Unstrut
  Lutzkendorf is the top estate of the small eastern German wine region Saale-Unstrut.
• Weingut Schloss Proschwitz / Saxony
  Proschwitz was the best winemaker of the GDR (East Germany). Since 1990 they improved quality and are now the top estate of Saxony.
• Weingut Bürgermeister Willi Schweinhardt Nachfahren / Nahe
  "Mayor Schweinhardt's Descendants" catered the wines for the German team at the Olympic Games 2004 in Athens.
• Weingut Simon-Bürkle / Hessische Bergstrasse (English)
  Simon-Burkle is the top estate of Germany's smallest wine region Hessische Bergstraße, but their mineralic white wines are famous far beyond this area. They seal their bottles with glass tops.
• Weingut August Ziegler / Pfalz
  The "Ziegler's" are winemakers since 1717 in the 8th generation. They produce excellent Rieslings, Gewuerztraminer, Spaetburgunder, Dornfelder and Merlot.
